GLOSSARY

Transfer time indicates the time it takes for a UPS to switch from AC mode to battery mode. this effect is measured in milliseconds (ms); in a Double Conversion UPS the time of 0 ms, in an Interactive UPS it can be from 3 to 6 ms.

A current transformer (CT) is used to increase or decrease an alternating current (AC). It produces a current in the secondary winding proportional to the current of the primary.

Transients are energy pulses of very short duration, induced in the sine wave. Despite their short lifespan, they cause deterioration and even catastrophic damage to electronic and high-tech equipment such as PLCs, drives, control cards, and other sensitive equipment. A traditional fuse or switch does not protect against transients as they do not react quickly enough to prevent the event, transients have durations of less than a nanosecond, a nanosecond is one billionth of a second.

Alternating electric current provides us with a sinusoid which can be measured by taking a reading of the maximum value (crest) dividing it by the corresponding factor that is approximately 1.41, when several samples are taken and the corresponding average is made, we obtain a more approximate or real value of the referred voltage.

Meaning of TVSS (Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor) and SPD (Surge Protection Device). They both refer to the device that can protect the low voltage electrical system from damage by transients

This method is appropriate to measure power factor KVAR, KW, KVA in delta or star connected loads that are balanced
